Case study - Dream Cruises

User journeys | IA | interaction paradigms | sketching | wireframes

Background and goals

SMC Design were tasked with fitting out a new cruise ship for a luxury cruise line. This was to include large touchscreen kiosks for information and wayfinding, and a smart TV interface with information and video/audio on demand. A secondary part of the project was some quick wireframes for an app, however the primary goal was completing the on-board offering. A final aspect of this role was to champion UX within the company so that they may better carry out future similar projects

Process

Regrettably, as I believe this would be a perfect project for lots of research and a full, service design approach, time and budget constraints meant I had to work very quickly with just information and requirements from the various department leads to guide my work. I did a lot of research into touchscreen and smart TV interfaces, looking at various interaction paradigms. An IA was done for each of the platforms, followed by wireframes and specification of main templates and interaction styles. We liaised with the team in Hong Kong for feedback, and we worked with a dev team in Germany to produce working prototypes.
